When scrubing a wet finger on the rim of a crystal glass, it produces a vibration of the glass at a particular frequency along with it’s harmonics acording to the shape, volume and liquid present. The bell-shape of the glass acts as a resonator. The size of the glass and the amount of water change the vibration speed, which alters the pitch. This is the subject of a new sound collection from MPSFX sound effects store.

Six different types of glasses were used: a small and a large Cognac glass, a Champagne Flute glass, two different Wine glasses, and a Ricard glass.
The sounds were recorded, edited, processed and delivered in Pro Tools at 192 kHz and 24 bits.
A pair of Sennheiser MKH8040 were used in a ORTF setup.

Here is a spectral analysis of one of the sounds. Notice the high frequency response above 20kHz, the low noise, pure tone and multiple harmonics

This demo features one edited sample of each of the glasses at 5 different speeds/pitch with no processing added. This shows the potential of extreme sound manipulation at high sample rates.

There are two delivery format for this collection:

– 46 stereo files at 192kHz (790Mb) for 25 $
– 46 stereo files at 48 kHz (211Mb) for 15 $
